change windows app database RRS feed

  • Question

I have created a Windows Application that uses an attached sql server database. When I publish the application and install in on a different computer everything works great. So if I add a lot of data to the application from the one computer and then I decide to change computers how do i move the database to the new machine? I will have to install my application on the new machine which will attach the database without any data.

When I install my applicaiton and do a search for the .mdf file there is nothing there for me to replace.

  • You can generate the SQL Scripts to re-create the new database.

Another option is to clean manually the database and backup it, then restore in the new location.

You can use tools for hosting such as Database Publishing Wizard available here:

  • I think I will add a function to generate and import scripts to my application.

    Thanks for the input
