How to get Metadata from document library into a document RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have a client who wants to have metadata captured for a document in a document library exported into a Microsoft Document.  Does anyone know how this may be achieved?

Thank you for your thoughts and comments.

    Sincerely,

    Tim

  • I think this might be what you're looking for:

    1) Create a Document Library in SharePoint.
    2) Add a column for each field you want to capture.
    3) Stick the Word template you want to use into the Library.
    4) Open the template.
    5) Click where you want the first Field / Column.
    6) Click Insert>Quick Parts>Document Property>YourColumn.

This creates an XML Content Control.  When the user enters the information, Word will associate their entry as a document property.  Then, when the document is uploaded to that Document Library, SharePoint will read the properties and display them as columns.  You can then push the data out wherever you want: the normal method is just to a webpart.

  • I am posting an additional reply to this because the scope has widened.  We need to get a rollup of the metadata into a single document.  So it extends beyond just one record.  Basically the library contains data segmented out by quarter.  What mangement would like is to have a report generated or a data rollup of the metadata columns exported to Word.

Does anyone have any thoughts about how to do this?

    Thank you for your comments,

    Tim
