Visual studio and blend designer for winrt app error

    Question

  • Hi,

    I recently get into Windows 8 app development. I have Windows 8 (of course) and Visual Studio 2012 Premium. Each time I try to open the designer in VS or Blend I get the following exception (sorry the text is in French) :

    System.Exception
    Échec des mises à jour, de la dépendance ou de la validation des conflits du package. (Exception de HRESULT : 0x80073CF3)
       à Microsoft.Expression.HostUtility.Platform.AppContainerProcessDomainFactory.CreateDesignerProcess(String applicationPath, String clientPort, Uri hostUri, IDictionary environmentVariables, Int32& processId, Object& processData)
       à Microsoft.Expression.DesignHost.Isolation.Primitives.ProcessDomainFactory.ProcessIsolationDomain..ctor(ProcessDomainFactory factory, IIsolationBoundary boundary, AppDomainSetup appDomainInfo, FrameworkName targetFramework, String identifier, String baseDirectory)
       à Microsoft.Expression.DesignHost.Isolation.Primitives.ProcessDomainFactory.CreateIsolationDomain(IIsolationBoundary boundary)
       à Microsoft.Expression.HostUtility.Platform.AppContainerProcessDomainFactory.CreateIsolationDomain(IIsolationBoundary boundary)
       à Microsoft.Expression.DesignHost.Isolation.Primitives.IsolationBoundary.Initialize()
       à Microsoft.Expression.DesignHost.Isolation.Primitives.IsolationBoundary.CreateInstance[T](Type type)
       à Microsoft.Expression.DesignHost.Isolation.IsolatedExportProvider.Initialize()
       à Microsoft.VisualStudio.ExpressionHost.Services.VSIsolationService.CreateExportProvider(IIsolationTarget isolationTarget, ICatalogFactory catalogFactory, IExportFilter filter)
       à Microsoft.Expression.DesignHost.Isolation.IsolationService.CreateLease(IIsolationTarget isolationTarget)
       à Microsoft.Expression.DesignHost.IsolatedDesignerService.CreateLease(IIsolationTarget isolationTarget, CancellationToken cancelToken, DesignerServiceEntry& entry)
       à Microsoft.Expression.DesignHost.IsolatedDesignerService.IsolatedDesignerView.CreateDesignerViewInfo(CancellationToken cancelToken)
       à Microsoft.Expression.DesignHost.Isolation.IsolatedTaskScheduler.InvokeWithCulture[T](CultureInfo culture, Func`2 func, CancellationToken cancelToken)
       à Microsoft.Expression.DesignHost.Isolation.IsolatedTaskScheduler.<>c__DisplayClassa`1.<StartTask>b__6()
       à System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1.InnerInvoke()
       à System.Threading.Tasks.Task.Execute()

    Also the app compiles and run without any trouble.

    I have already seen the similar issue in the thread http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/toolsforwinapps/thread/b6a66a5a-e3b4-4f1a-848e-c1a6b7668b31 but none of the proposed solution has worked for me. I have repaired VS, perform remove/install, I have checked that c++ libraries are installed and I have a valid free developer account. All software were installed from scratch (no upgrade).

    Do you have any idea to solve this problem ?

  • I found a solution but I still don't know where the problem was coming from.

    I removed completely VS and reinstalled it by launching the installer from the command line with administrative rights.
