Media Engine Playback Example Broken

    Question

  • Running the Media Engine Playback sample (Found here: http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsapps/Media-Engine-Playback-ce1c82f0) causes an exception to be thrown when calling mediaEngine->TransferVideoFrame(). There's already a question on the Q&A section of the sample, but it hasn't seemed to received any attention. Can we get someone to look into this? Let me know if I should attach the video we're testing it with.

    Output Window:

  • Hello Ray,

This looks like a new and as yet unreported code defect. Although I can reproduce the problem I have not been able to track down root cause. I'll file a code defect and see where it goes.

Thanks much for your help in tracking this down.

  • Hello,

I am unable to reproduce this issue. Can you please generate a dump file zip it up and put it on you SkyDrive account. I will also need the DX Diag report from the machine that is reproducing the issue.

  • Here's a .zip with the video I'm using, the DxDiag, and the .dmp file. Let me know if there are any problems.

  • Hello,

I took a quick look at this today but I noticed that I need the PDB for the sample. But I need the EXACT pdb for the dump file that you provided. If you have rebuilt or think you might have rebuild the app since the dump was generated please build the app and generate another dump. Zip the dump and pdb together and I take another look.

    Thanks,

    James

  • Hello Ray,

I can confirm that what you are running into is a know issue related to some versions of the NVidia DX11 driver on W8. This issue should be fixed in the latest NVidia DX11 driver version 9.18.13.1106.

    I hope this helps,

  • I did now notice that my driver was out of date. I installed the latest version of Nvidia drivers (Which for my card was ersion 9.18.13.1422), but the issue still appears. Here's a new .pdb, .dmp, and .dxdiag generated after I've updated my drivers.

  • @James - What is the status on this issue?  Is it posted anywhere publicly where we can track it?
