Well it is aparently a toolkit issue. I changed to display=dynamic and validation works. Can you please move this to the toolkit forum? Maybe somebody had already seen this issue?

Ok, so exactly what is it doing or not doing? Is it not catching the valid characters? What are you expecting the validation control to do?

Throw an error when a button is clicked and textbox is empty :) And it's not happening. Button's onclick event is not firing however, so validation partially working. Maybe its being caused by the callout extender?

When you perform a submit, do you call if(Page.IsValid) to ensure it's valid? Did you read the Known Issues on the calloutextender? http://www.asp.net/ajaxLibrary/AjaxControlToolkitSampleSite/ValidatorCallout/ValidatorCallout.aspx

"and will only work for custom validators which utilize client-side validation" Did somehting change and we have to use callout extender only with Custom Validators now??? I know that they work just fine with any validator (required, range, etc) in .NET 4

Where is this ValidatorExtender coming from? It doesn't appear to be a part of ASP.NET.

AJAX Control Toolkit by the one and only Microsoft Corp. It seems a bit odd that a mod of an ASP.NET forum is not aware of AJAX control toolkit.
