  • Why so complicated?

Use performance counters to examine whether Biztalk Host Instances are active
Webservice relies on IIS is up and running and can give false results (iis might be down but not BTS)

To ensure message flow you can set your message to wait for ack message from receiver
If not edifact or x12 might require custom code

    Eg for inspiration

  • Success or failure of what?  BizTalk doesn't need a heartbeat.  The thing is, if you think you need one, let us help you solve the real problem.  A heartbeat app is an unnecessary misdirection of resources.

  • No need a window service for triggering for webservice, Biztalk can trigger a webservice in a specific interval.
