USB ports not detecting hard drive on Windows 8 Developer Preview

    Question

  • Hi,

Currently running: Version 6.2.8102 Build 8102

It seems that my HP DV6822TX is having issues detecting the external hard drive. Its a Verbatim Store n go. The USB 2.0 ports dont seem to be detecting the hard drive but I can see that its spinning. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  • Is this a brand new drive?  Has this drive been used before?  If not, you may have to initialize the drive in Disk Management.  Once initialized, you will have to create and format a partition.

If the drive has been used before, it may be off-line (happens sometimes).  Again, go to Disk Management to bring it on-line.  At that time, it should automatically assign a drive letter (if not, you can manually assign one or mount to an empty NTFS folder).

To do either of the actions, make sure you right-click in the area that reads Disk X (where X represents the disk in question).

  • Try update your Windows and when you insert it go and check device manager and see if there is any error there for this device or not.

It is also good idea to report this to support of manufacturer of this device , since it seems to be compatibility issue.
