inconsistency in geocoding RRS feed

  • Question

  • I feed it the following Piotrkowska Street 79, 90-004 Lodz, Poland as query and it returns ulica Piotrkowska 79, 90-423 Lodz, Poland

How can i tell bing not to change "Street" to the local version in polish? also why is the postal code different now? google goecoding returns the correct one as i fed it, while bing returns a new postal code.

    Thank you

  • The geocoder will always return the address it finds, but that doesn't mean you have to use it. Geocoders are designed to calculate a coordinate for an address. All you need is the coordinate, you already have the inputted address.

  • Using a geocoder to clean addresses will not always work and more often than not it causes more pain. Geocoders are not designed to clean addresses, there are special systems for doing that which usually cost a lot more than a geocoder. There is no documentation around what you are looking for as there are a lot of possible reasons why the geocoder returns different formats, mostly due to that being how the data was captured, but at the end of the day a geocoder is for converting addresses to coordinates on a map, not cleaning addresses.

  • I am also trying to "fix" my addresses while geocoding it so they are all the same "format" because i feed it different formats.  Also is there any documenation on how admindistrict is calculated/found/returned?

because its very inconsistent, for example if i put the following address

Via Forte Marghera 129, Mestre, Veneto

it will return "Ven." as admindistrict and this is not consistent with anything.

    Thank yo
