SQL server security patches RRS feed

  • Question

  • In our environment the patches are maintained by Server Admins.

We implement Service pack and CU.

Now is there any special security patches that needs to be implemented by DBA?

Answers

  • No its just these two.

For SQL server , the patches are Service packs and the CU's that fixes the bugs. Apart from that there is nothing related to patching.

A Service Pack contains all fixes made up to that point in time. If you're looking for a fix to an issue that affects you, you have to go for hotfixes-CU

DBA's just need to care about SQl Server security patch. The latest information can be found out from blog Alberto shared.

Server admins might not be able to accurately perform SP upgarde if it is SQl Server cluster env. To be on safer side SQL DBA admins should do that

  • Hello,

All security updates appear on the following list with a KB/Description starting with MS15-XXX.

    http://sqlserverbuilds.blogspot.com/

Click on those fixes and evaluate how critical is each one based in your environment.

    Hope this helps.
