to add a new protocol RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.

I have been searching for a way to create a new network protocol.
If I understand correctly in older versions of windows one had to make his protocol driver implement the TDK interface.
But as of vista the preferred way is to make the driver implement the WSK Provider NPI.

I need to make it possible to use the protocol from winsock2 in the same way as the ipx protocol was used before microsoft decided to remove it from newer versions of their os.
The final goal being to create an ipx/spx compatible protocol driver that would work on vista and newer systems.

Are there any examples or preferrably a good documentation or even better both on how to implement a driver that exposes the wsk provider interface and how to access it from winsock2?

I'm new to all the driver creation and msdn stuff so please corrent me if I understood something wrong,
or if this is the wrong place to ask such a question.

    Thanks
