Too many items on the Desktop RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been told that having too many items (more than 50) will slow down my computer.  I am not using "roaming" sessions.  I realise that a "minor" delay (a few seconds) might be incurred by drawing additional graphics to the desktop on the initial boot-up.  But, is there any documented evidence from Microsoft that having lots of icons on the desktop will decrease system performance?  We are still using XP.

  • Hi,

not sure if you has run the WPT tool to check if the icon number the only issue by building your desktop / load the user profile.

But you should use the WPT like:
"xbootmgr -trace boot -traceflags base+cswitch+profile+networktrace+registry" to check which application consume your resources mostly.
May be you will find out which applications / services allocate your system resources ;).

    Best regards
