How to access Azure File share using UNC Path Without Mount drive? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to access the Azure File Share as UNC path, without mounting the files share to local system.

    I want to access my azure storage account as below. I will impersonate the credentials in my application, after that I want to access the files using System.IO.File classes. Is it possible or not?

    Directory.Exists(@"\\storageAccount.file.core.windows.net\sharename\directoryName");

    I'm searching for samples and answer as yes or no, but no where it was mentioned as "Yes, you can access" or "No, without mount drive you cant perform this".

    Even here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/files/storage-dotnet-how-to-use-files it is not clear. In API list System.IO is given, but no sample code and not clearly stated that SMB can be done only after mounting the file share to local.

    It seems Azure File share can be accessible only through RestAPI or through SDK classes or through mount drive.

    Please clarify is it possible or not.
