Which file to install on Windows Phone? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, I'm new to creating apps for Windows Phone, and I don't own a Windows Phone. I'm creating a simple demo for a client using Expression Blend, and when I build the project and test it in the emulator it's fine, but I don't know which file extension would be on the final executable file that actually gets installed on the phone. This is a funny question, but could someone please tell me which file is the one that gets installed on Windows Phone, and where it saves to by default? Thank you :)

  • Assuming you started a Windows Phone project in Blend, the created file will be called (Your application name).xap -- it will be located in (Your application folder)/Bin/Debug. You can deploy it to a phone that has been developer-unlocked using the Application Deployment Tool (instructions can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff769512(v=vs.92).aspx).
