Matching Excel content app to the document (page layout) color theme RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi folks,

Is there a way for a content app for Excel 2013 (as discussed in Office UX design guidelines here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161012.aspx )to use the same color theme as the document?

I've made a visualization content app and came to the conclusion it's unreasonable 1) for content apps to be ugly by default by not matching the document they're inserted in and 2) for content apps to compete with Office ribbon and other Office UI by putting formatting controls inside the frame of the content app (but I suspect we'll end up doing this in lieu of another option.)

It'd be great if there was an API that provided the base colors being used, or guidance about what to do if there isn't such an API.

    Thanks,

    Wade

  • Hi Wade,

Thank you for posting in the MSDN Forum.

As far as I'm concerned, there's no such API.

I've seen a tool called color cards from one of my artist friend which can be used to identify colors. I think it might be helpful if you want to deal with UI design.

    Hope it helps.

    Best regards,
