ASP.net vs ASP for targetting blackberry browser RRS feed

    Hi all,

I'm in the process of engaging contractors to extend our intranet, making parts of it accessible on our blackberrys.  One developer says asp.net is too "heavy" for our requirements.  They say the code that it generates won't be sufficiently lightweight for the handheld's browser.

The other developer says ASP.net has a handheld profile which can generate tiny style sheets and lightweight html that "should" work fast on the blackberry.

Both contactors have done great work. The ASP.net developers are 30% more expensive - so the productive gains of ASP.net aren't reflected in the cost.

Price and maintainability aside, should I choose custom ASP/vbscript or ASP.net?

It really depends on what you are doing with asp.net.  The Blackberry browser's biggest deficiency (other than screen size and bandwidth) is that it does not support every Javascript function that IE supports.

    One example is "setFocus".

I have had good luck using the asp.net 1.1 mobile controls with the Blackberry browser.
