Azure Maps TimeZoneByCoordinates is returning wrong timezone RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to get the time offset of the airport Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Newbery, Argentina. Based on the latitude and longitude -34.55622, -58.41667 it returns me the payload:

    { "Version": "2018g", "ReferenceUtcTimestamp": "2018-11-19T13:31:17.2041678Z", "TimeZones": [ { "Id": "Etc/GMT+4", "Names": { "ISO6391LanguageCode": "en", "Generic": "Coordinated Universal Time -4", "Standard": "Coordinated Universal Time -4", "Daylight": "Coordinated Universal Time -4" }, "ReferenceTime": { "Tag": "Etc/GMT+4", "StandardOffset": "-04:00:00", "DaylightSavings": "00:00:00", "WallTime": "2018-11-19T09:31:17.2041678+00:00", "PosixTzValidYear": 2018, "PosixTz": "<+4>-4" }, "RepresentativePoint": { "Latitude": -34.55622, "Longitude": -58.41667 } } ] }

    This payload states that the timezone is -04:00 while this in incorrect. The actual timezone should be -03:00 and DST is not longer active since 2009.

    I have used the /timezone/byCoordinates/json and api version 1.0

  • Thanks for raising awareness to this issue. We've identified the issue as a polygon error for Argentina. We've corrected the issue and will publish a fix in the next day or two.

  • Hello Pascal,

    This is an interesting finding thanks for sharing. From my knowledge Argentina doesn't has different time zones (source: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/argentina)

    I tried for example the following coordinates (near the airport) and they showed correctly:

    (-34.450238,-58.566895)

    I will forward this to the Product Group Team to have a look at.

    Thank you!
