Breakpoints in driver (Visual Studio Express 2013) don't work RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am writing a WDF driver in Visual Studio Express 2013.

Host computer OS is  Windows 7 x64, target computer OS is Windows 8.1 x64. Connection type for kernel mode debugger is  Network.

The driver's body is created by VS wizard (Create new project->Driver->Driver WDF etc). The Build Condiguration is Win 8.1 Debug x64.

Deployment works fine. My device appears in Windows Device Manager. Then I do:

    1) Debug->Connect to process. Connected, the VS in debug mode

2)Debug->Break. The target computer hangs. In the VS Immediate Window I see:

    Symbol search path is: srv*
    Executable search path is:

3)Set breakpoints. In the Breakpoints window I see 0x00 in Function and Address columns.

5)Run user application at target, the application opens my device and does read transaction.

    6)VS doesn't stop at breakpoints.

Why I can not use the breakpoints? Must I do some additional VS debugger settings?

  • The breakpoints work if I do Debug->Begin Debug instead of Debug->Connect to process.
