Running Object Table and security RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a tool that starts Visual Studio and lookups it's DTE instance in Running Object Table. One of our customers reported that they have UnauthorizedAccessException on Microsoft Windows 2008 server under domain user account:

Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))
    Exception: System.UnauthorizedAccessException
Message: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))
    Source: mscorlib
       at System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComTypes.IRunningObjectTable.EnumRunning(IEnumMoniker& ppenumMoniker)

We tried to run a simple RotTest program from http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vsx/thread/ccccc9bd-f21a-4f74-a3f0-64a594fa1b16 and it also threw the same exception. At the same time this program works fine under Windows 2003 server.

The question is which permissions are required for the domain user account in order to get access to ROT? The user claims to have admin privileges from the domain account.
