  • You can customize what you want to backup with Windows Server Backup (You can backup entire volumes or specified folders).

There is no backup type in Windows Server Backup, all the backups are normal.

To backup files using Windows Server Backup, you can proceed like that:

1- Add an entire disk to be used for backups (The disk can host many backups)

2- Add just a volume from a disk to be used for backups (Not recommanded because it will slow access to datas on the disk)

3- Specify a network share to backup your file (You can only store an only one backup. A new one will overwrite the existing one)

  • I recommand to you to use an entire disk to be used for backups.

According to my knowledge, the normal backups used in Windows Server Backup has been optimized so that they will take smaller possible disk space.

  • I recommand to you to daily backup system state (You can use an entire disk space) by configuring a scheduled task.

You can also backup manually the entire volumes at least one time each week using network shares (It is recommanded to use an entire disk and backup it daily using scheduled tasks).

So, your plan should elaborated by yourself but I insist to backup system state each day.

    Best regards.

Yes, this is the best way to proceed and it is the most recommanded one.
