How to change permissions for groups? RRS feed

  • Question

  • hey all, hope i have the right forum for this question..

i've just been given the role of sharepoint admin (limited experience), and first task is to create a user group with read only permissions to a subsite.

i created the group, but can't figure out how to change permissions for the group; ie, if i look at an existing group that i want to mirror (see below), i see a number of URLs that it has access to, and this is what i want the new group to have access to- how do i do this??

  • Hi,

Stop inheriting permissions for the subsite, create a group and add customer only to that group, give appropriate permissions levels for the group to access subsite

For more details on how permissions are handled go through below links

thanks, i don't think we can stop inheriting permissions- the sharepoint server was set up by someone else and i don't know the details behind how it was set up (still learning) and have no idea what would happen if i did that.. i've created a group SiteB under consumersales/RetailStores and it is showing Read access under Site Settings/Site Permissions/Edit User Permissions for SiteB.. i've gone to the same settings screen under other sub sites (Inventory Control, Marketing etc) and i see permissions applied for SiteB, but they don't show up when i view the attached screen for SiteB, so i'm guessing that i'm doing something wrong?

does each site and sub site have its own visitors group?  if i look at groups for consumersales/RetailStores/StoreB, i don't see a StoreB Visitors group.  i added the one i referred to above and trying to give that the required permissions..

  • Hi,

Stopping inheritance will not effect other site. In subsite where you are stopping inheritance will effect, mean that subsite will now follow your unique permissions. that u r looking to create group and assign read permission and then add members in that group. after that you have to remove already inherited group from subsite.

do u have any test environment.
