Can I use Extension Manager in VS2008? Is there any patch or add-in for it for VS 2008? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have VS extensions with format .vsix files, so the developers who work on VS 2010 can install/enable them.

But there are also some developers who are still working on VS 2008, is there any patch or add-in for VS2008, to let these developers use Extension Manager in VS2008?

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

The Extension Manager and VSIX deployment method are not available in pre-Visual Studio 2010 versions.  The recommended way to get an extension to target both 2008 and 2010 would be to build the extension for 2008; it should then work in 2010 as we try to maintain backward compatibility in newer versions.

    Thanks,
