So many Windows license keys, what are the limits? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Looking at https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/keys/, there seem to be quite a lot of Windows license keys I can download. "Windows 10 Education, 0 of 5", "Windows 10 Home Retail, 0 of 5", "Windows 10 Version 1511, 0 of 5", "Windows 10 Pro, 0 of 5", "Windows 10 Pro Multiple Activation, 0 of 1", and so forth.

Does downloading one type of key "use up" another type of key? If I download too many keys for Windows 10 Home, will I find that I've screwed myself if I need Windows 10 Pro now?

And speaking of which, how many times can a key be re-used? I'm developing device drivers, and it's very common for me to mess things up and just wipe the disk and reinstall from scratch. Am I going to regret that?

  • Dear Ed,

I can understand your confusion related to different editions of Windows and it's product keys.

There are only four Windows 10 Editions which is follows:

    1. Windows 10 Home,
    2. Windows 10 Pro,
    3. Windows 10 Educiation,
    4. Windows 10 Enterprise.

You can generate up to 5 keys from each product, and all the retail product keys can be activated online for 10 times, after that unlimited phone activation.

MAK (Multiple Activation Key) has 20 online activations.

For more info about the Product Keys, please check this link.

Please do let me know if you need further help regarding the activation.

    Prathaprabhu,

You're response also answered my questions (thanks!) but the link you provided displays "Unable to Service Request."  Is there a new link, or is the information no longer relevant?
