A couple more points - log shipping now works with replication and full-text search. So if you have a full-text database and you log ship it you no longer have to rebuild the catalogs when you failover. With replication and a remote distributor you can set up a mirroring or log shipping on your publisher so on failover you will not have to reinitialize your subscriptions.

They are pretty well identical with the exception that you can do database and log backup compression in SQL Server 2008 EE, and SQL Server 2008 R2 SE, and EE.

Hello,
In addition to Hilary and Suhas recommendations. I would also recommend you to read the following article Database Backup Compression Feature In SQL Server 2008 to know how to configure and use this feature.
Hope This Helps!
