Media Foundation SDK 7.1 MPEG-TS Source RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi There,

I'm a bit confused about MPEG-TS support in Media Foundation.  I've found documentation (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd239181.aspx) that in Windows 7, Media Foundation supports MPEG2-TS sources.  I do believe this, since Win7 seems to have no problem generating video thumbnails for my MPEG2-TS files with H.264 video.  However, when I try the SDK 7.1 sample for generating thumbnails, I get the usual exception for a file-not-supported.  So, I'm a little perplexed there.  Coincidentally, this is exactly the task I'm trying to accomplish - I have MPEG2-TS/H.264 videos that I'm trying to programmatically extract a thumbnail from.  I even have generated MPEG2-TS/H.264 files that only contain a single I-Frame in the stream.

    Comments or Suggestions?

Thanks for any and all help.

  • I am not sure who wrote the above document, but there is (unfortunately) no MPEG2-TS support in Media Foundation.  Thumbnail generation for MPEG2-TS content still goes through DirectShow.  There are some situations where Windows applications wrap the DirectShow filter in an MF source, which may have been miscommunicated to that document author as MPEG2-TS support in MF.

  • Oh I see.  Thanks Matt.  I'm not sure how you would address the mis-information that is in that document, but since it's hosted on MSDN someone should probably take a look.  I ran across several threads that reference it, and it certainly sent me on a wild goose chase for a day or two :)

  • I know this is an old thread, but could you direct me to somewhere where the process of wrapping a DirectShow filter in MF source is explained or demonstrated?
