Edit Item button disabled or grayed out (sometimes)

Question
-
I have a large list (2000+) and I am able to select an item and then select the Edit Item button on the ribbon to edit and save my changes. Then when select another item to edit, the Edit Item button is disabled and I have to log out and back in. After logging back in, it's enabled again and I can edit (again only one item at a time). I have full control on the site, the items are displayed in a List View web part.
How can I keep the Edit Item button from getting disabled?
Thanks!
Carolin

Hi Carolin,
From your description, this issue is related to the browser.
As a quick solution, please try to reset Internet Explorer setting.

Thanks Reema. Yes, it works fine with Chrome, but not with IE and our users prefer to use IE. I've added our site to the Compatibility View Settings but that didn't seem to help either.Thursday, May 26, 2016 2:17 PM

Do you use a recent version of IE? 2010 is fairly old now and some newer versions of IE don't work well with it. I think there may be some patches or CUs that help that.
I'll bet you are getting JavaScript errors on the non-functional pages in IE.

Hi Carolin- also make sure you're only using the 32-bit version of IE.
