Builtin/Administrators login in SQL Server Engine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I would like to inquire if SQL Server 2000 is installed on a domain controller and has the group Builtin/Administrators as login in the Server Engine. Would that group be the Active Directory Administrators group under Builtin OU.

    Regards,

    Elham

  • Unfortunately after you promote a server to a domain controller you can no longer access the GUI for Local Users and Groups.

    type this in command prompt

    net localgroup Administrators

  • Bultin\Administartors group is the Windows Local group. All the users who are part of the Administrators group in the local machine whill have access to sql server. In this case it is the local administrators group in the domain controller windows box and not on the AD level.

  • Right click My Computer -> Manage, then expand local users and groups and go to groups.

  • Hi hiam,

    Add one point.

It is not recommended to install SQL Server on a domain controller. There are specific security restrictions when running SQL Server in this configuration and given the resource demands of a domain controller, SQL Server performance may be degraded. Furthermore, SQL Server is not supported on a read-only domain controller. Setup will normally fail. Even if you find methods to work around the problem with setup, SQL Server is not supported on a read-only domain controller. In addition, SQL Server failover clustering is not supported to install on a domain controller.

    Thanks.
