Visual Studio 10 SP1 Install hangs on installing SetupUtility RRS feed

  • Question

  • I installed VS 10 from our MSDN Depot successfully then I tried to install SP1 after an unsuccessful attempt to install VS2010 Team Explorer on a previous day.  The install hangs just displaying "Installing SetupUtility".  Also hangs when trying to back out the install of setupUtility if you press Cancel.  I did check to see if any other setups were running via the registry key and they were not.

I have a log file but its not very interesting.

There is a file that is locked that looks like it is created by SetupUtility in temp dir: dd_SetupUtility.tx

HTML file in temp directory shows launch, but no error:

  • Hi LisaMakingItWork,

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

For your issue, I suggest you could take the following steps to see if it helps:

    (1) Go to Control Panel to repair your visual studio 2010 first.

    (2) If you install the SP1 from the web installer, I suggest you could try to use the iso instead.

You can download it from here

With the help of the iso, we could make sure that the package is not corrupted, please use the FCIV.exe to verify the checksum, refer to:http://blogs.msdn.com/b/heaths/archive/2011/03/25/verify-the-iso-checksum-for-visual-studio-2010-service-pack-1-before-installing.aspx You can download the FCIV.exe from this page.

Please make sure that your SHA-1 value is correct and then try to install the SP1. Remember that disabling your anti-virus software and run the installer as Administrator.

If you still could not install the SP1, I need more detail information to troubleshoot, please use  http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.cab from %temp% folder. Please upload the file to https://skydrive.live.com/ and share the link here.
