32 bit vs 64 bit RRS feed


  • The following is what i can think of 

    1. 16 general purpose registers instead of 8

    2. 64 bit address space, so you can access and address more than 4 GB of RAM

    3. If you have a compiler which works in a very optimized manner, it can use a single 64 bit space to store two 32 bit data structures

    4. You get to use a native 64 bit integer, which is quite efficient
