How should Windows CE 6.0 R3 and Windows Embedded 2013 be installed on the same Windows 7 32-bit machine? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Windows CE 6.0 R3 development tools installed for software development for our current devices. I downloaded Windows Embedded Compact 2013 evaluation. Upon installation, it reports the following:

We have detected a previous version of Windows Embedded CE on this machine. Unfortunately, the installation of Windows Embedded Compact 2013 cannot continue on computers that have previous versions of Windows Embedded CE installed.

The Embedded Compact 2013 release notes does not say this cannot be done.

How do I support current Windows CE 6.0 device software development and start software evaluation/development with Windows Embedded Compact 2013?

Any links to documents on doing this would be appreciated.

  • Hello Jim,

I have the same experience and the only solution is to install WEC2013 on another machine. Obviously,  you fon't need another PC but you can just use a virtual machine for WEC2013 evaluation. Their installation side by side isn't supported.
