Error Message Recording Coded UI Test RRS feed

  • Question

  • I get an error message when trying to record a coded UI Test.   Using (IE 9, SL4, VS2010)

    The Message is:

Microsoft Silverlight is currently not supported.  Go to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=157214 for  information on available add-in for possible support.

    Here are my steps.

In VS 2010 Solution Explorer, I Added a New Project.  Selected Test.  Then I selected the Test Project Template.  Name:  MySLTestProject

On the test project, MySLTestProject, I right clicked and selected Add Coded UI Test.

On the PopUp titled “Generate Code for Coded UI Test” I left the default setting, “Record actions, edit UI map or add assertions.”  And Clicked OK.

Clicked Start Recording on UI Map.

Opened IE 9.  Entered URL to SL app, http://localhost:1266/MySLHelloWorldTestPage.aspx .  My SL application appeared.

As soon as I clicked on a text box on the page, I get the error message:

Microsoft Silverlight is currently not supported.  Go to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=157214 for  information on available add-in for possible support.

Clicked Ok on the error message and continued entering data in my application.  Then I clicked pause.

On UI Map, I clicked Generate Code. Gave a method name, TestSLRecord.  Selected Add and Generate.

When I ran the test, IE opened but my website was not displayed.

I tried adding the website to compatibility settings, but that did not work.  How can I successfully record a test using Coded UI testing?  What am I doing wrong?

  • Hello SilverKnife

I think, downloading Feature Pack 2 also, wont solve your problem as I have tried it and failed. since its release in the December 2011, many useres in Silverlight 5 kept on asking about this same problem and i havent seen anyone answering it to the point. now that VS-2012 and out of my curiosity i checked and found a link that says no support for SL in Coded UT Test. well, dont know whatz happening... keep ur fingers crossed..

And please feel update something if you find anything useful.

    Thanks

  • Thanks for the reply.  I have read the link you are refering too.  However, it did not help me.  The following article shows another user experiencing the same problem.

The solution is to turn Action Log Data Collector off.  However, I do not know how or where to do this.  Any ideas?

  • Just a thought.  Maybe VS2010 Feature Pack 2 would solve this problem.  However, I am not an MSDN subscriber.   If this is true, please let me know.

  • Thank you.  This was very helpful.  I think Telerik's Test Studio offers a good solution for automated testing on a Silverlight application.  However, it is expensive.

  • I  did not see this.  I might try this.   I have not got Coded UI to work on Silverlight.  I have been looking at Telerik Test Studio.  So far it seems good. But the price may be high for some people.  Thanks for the info.
