PowerPivot -> Setting up new end user to use PowerPivot -> clicks on design button and query designer does not appear? Security issue? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been working on getting an end user (in house statistician) hooked into excel powerpivot.  I have the newest powerpivot installed, user has access to the cubes as Test Connection Succeeds.  Click next on the Table Import Wizard and now we are at the MDX Statement input window and when user clicks design the query designer does not appear.

I believe that this has to do with user's level of security but have been unable to figure out what combination user needs without just giving user tons of access that user should not need.

  • End user did not have access.  We had set up role access for user, but deploying a cube from within vs2010 wipes out roles.  In order to stop deploying from wiping out roles they need to be included in SSAS project or you need to use the Deployment Wizard.
