Pipeline failed, a task was canceled. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there, I'm having a problem where pipelines are failing and the error message only says: "A task was canceled". I can't find any information on this, and there is no official documentation on this.

As an example, I'll leave a pipeline run I get with powershell:

    ResourceGroupName : *******
    DataFactoryName   : datafactory***
    RunId             : 3c8f4e7e-f4ff-49a6-813f-858af2fd1228
    PipelineName      : Pipeline-Sql-****
    LastUpdated       : 4/28/2018 11:56:14 PM
    Parameters        : {}
    RunStart          : 4/28/2018 11:54:30 PM
    RunEnd            : 4/28/2018 11:56:14 PM
    DurationInMs      : 104940
    Status            : Failed
Message           : Activity CA-Compres**** failed: A task was canceled.

    Any help would be apreciated.

  • Can you please explain what your pipeline is trying to execute? How big is the input data and steps of the pipeline?

  • Hey there, sorry for the late reply.. thought no one would answer. The pipeline connects to a sql server on premise and uploads a file to a data lake compressed, then it has another activity to decompress it and save it in the same data lake store.

The input data doesnt matter too much, it happens randomly to 5-6 pipelines when I'm running like 1600.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Are you still hitting this?

Previously, the PROD had a bug which caused it failing to expose the right error message. But it should have been fixed.

Could you share a recent activity id if you are still hitting this?

  • Yes I'm still having these errors. Every fail in this image has this error, and are from last weekend.

As an example I'll give Ids: Pipeline run ID: ca17d7c7-9074-4b05-9eaa-3b2adc256670. Activity run ID: 8d0fd3cb-32e4-47fe-8253-88d416a9c61c

As I said its just an activity that uploads a compressed file to a lake, taking an on premise sql server table as source. It ran for about 2 minutes and I got this error.

The main issue with these kind of errors is that I cannot reproduce them.

I'm manually invoking 1600 pipelines with a scheduled powershell script, that runs on an onpremise pc where one of the Integration Runtimes is installed.

  • It should be a transient network issue caused http request timeout and showed as "a task was canceled", I checked all the errors under subscription id "13c5fec6-29cf-4abf-9a64-f01376778ba9" and all happened between 2018-06-10 12:40:19 and 2018-06-10 12:54:40. All other errors are because your self-hosted IR was offline.
