Error Message 10016 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does anybody know what may cause the OfficeErrorMessage 1016 in MS Access? (Need for exclusive access to the database). The problem is the following, the VBA IDE does not let you modify your code after you started a macro and then, let's say, because of some mistake in the code it was interrupted. However, when you go and modify the code without launching any macro this error does not occur. It used not to be this way. VBA let you modify the code even during tracing it and the saves were allowed even then. Now, probably because of some update, it became a nightmare when you have to re-load your database each time a mistake's found. The database is on a local computer and no other users use it as it's under development.

No info was found in Microsoft knowledge base.

    Thanks.

  • Welcome at the VBA forum, and thanks for posting your question.

What is the exact Error message you receive? Is it below message:

    Error 10016:

Some data may be lost. The setting for the FieldSize property of one or more fields has been changed to a shorter size. If data is lost, validation rules may be violated as a result. Do you want to continue anyway?

Also which version of Access are you using?

Couple of things you can try:

    - You might try to do a Compact & Repair, and see if that resolves your problem.

    - If that not resolves the problem, try to do a Decompile (http://www.fmsinc.com/microsoftaccess/performance/decompile.asp)

    Hope this helps,
