Incorrect location for Shoalhaven Heads RRS feed

  • Question

  • Searching for "Shoalhaven Heads" via the Locations API correctly returns the one in Australia, but its location and bounding box are in the Northern hemisphere.

    Specifically, this query:

    http://dev.virtualearth.net/REST/v1/Locations?query=shoalhaven%20heads&key=[key ommitted]&culture=en-au&userLocation=-26.523173715351508%2C133.50000000000003&jsonp=jsonp322005

    Returns this resource:

    {
    • __type"Location:http://schemas.microsoft.com/search/local/ws/rest/v1",
    • bbox
      [
      • 34.82102809112854,
      • 150.70294760360565,
      • 34.87896885711365,
      • 150.79705239639435
      ],
    • name"Shoalhaven Heads, Australia",
    • point
      {
      • type"Point",
      • coordinates
        [
        • 34.849998474121094,
        • 150.75
        ]
      },
    • address
      {
      • countryRegion"Australia",
      • formattedAddress"Shoalhaven Heads, Australia",
      • locality"Shoalhaven Heads"
      },
    • confidence"High",
    • entityType"PopulatedPlace",
    • geocodePoints
      [
      • {
        • type"Point",
        • coordinates
          [
          • 34.849998474121094,
          • 150.75
          ],
        • calculationMethod"Rooftop",
        • usageTypes
          [
          • "Display"
          ]
        }
      ],
    • matchCodes
      [
      • "Good"
      ]
    }

    Notice that the latitude is positive, which is clearly incorrect for a location in Australia.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

  • I'll pass this on to our data team for correction.

    Update: Just checked our internal system and see that a fix for this has already been made. We have a major update planned for our geocoder in a few months that will correct this issue and a number of others.
