Windows CE emulator. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I need some help from you. I have a AT91SAM9261 board with Windows CE 6.0 R3 (platform builder and visual studio 2005). I have designed a new OS project and I'd like to test it with the emulator. I don't know how to do this. I am new on Windows CE and development on it. Can someone help me for setup all the environement and test my OS image?

    Thanks a lot.

NB: I can't flash my board now, so I have to emulate it.

  • Probably, but I don't know anything about your board or your BSP.

  • Hi,

to test an OSDeisgn with the emulator you must choose "Device Emulator: ARMV4I" as target BSP in the OSDesign Wizard.

AFAIK you cannot configure the Emulator to download an image not targeted against the Emulator BSP even though the AT91SAM9261 is based on ARMV4I.

The Board Support Package (BSP) defines the core hardware settings of your platform, e.g. memory layout, GPIO mappings etc.

What are you trying to accomplish by emulating an image when you have physical hardware available?

  • So I need a specific BSP  for emulate my target?

I'd like to emulate it because I can't flash my device very often.

  • The emulator is not emulating your board, so using your BSP would be using the wrong BSP for the emulator.

Why can't you flash very often?  If your bootloader supports it, you could download to RAM and run from RAM.

  • OK, I understand that I can't emulate my board for test my application. So I need to lauch the binary in ram. In my board there is eBoot loader. I can do that?
