  • Hi benStein1,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

How did you install the .NET Framework 4.7.1?

Please have a look at this blog, we can download and install the .NET Framework 4.7.1 through the Download Center or Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and Microsoft Update (MU) Catalog.

Have you tried to install the .NET Framework 4.7 version? If you meet this issue, please try to install the d3dcompiler update fromthis link.

Before the installation, please make sure windows update is up-to-date and restart the computer, temporally disable any antivirus software, run the installer as admin.

    Best regards,

    Sara

  • I have tried downloading it from all of those sources, both offline and web installers, and always running as admin. I've disabled windows defender as well. I haven't had the issue you mentioned, it never gets that far, just the fatal error.

  • Hi benStein1,

    Thank you for your update.

Please try to run the sfc /scannow command or DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

    Best regards,

    Sara

  • Hi There

Try repairing the current version of .NET FrameWork, and then trying again with the later version to install, and it should go thru smoothly,.
