User Story is not where the iteration path shows it being RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been having a problem with User Story's iteration path showing one thing and the User Story being somewhere else.  How am I able to move the story if the path says it is already there?

  • Hi NikiSen1,

    Thanks for your post.

In your case, do you have the similar behavior like below?

    Scenario1:

    1. Create a "User Story" work item.
    2. Change the work item "Iteration" field from Iteration1 to Iteration2.
    3. Refresh the sprint. The work item displayed correctly.

    Scenario2:

    1. Create a "User Story" work item and create a task (Task1) as child.
    2. Change the work item "Iteration" field from Iteration1 to Iteration2.
    3. Refresh the sprint. The work item with Task1 is still in Iteration1, and a new work item which has the same name and properties is automatically created in Iteration2. But the Iteration2 work item doesn't have the child task (Task1).
    4. Change the Task1 "Iteration" field from Iteration1 to Iteration2. The work item displayed correctly in Iteration2.

In TFS 2013 Update 5 and TFS 2015, Scenario2 behavior are same. This is not a bug. When changed a work item iteration, the child work items (Task) will not be automatically moved to the target iteration. We could set the child tasks iteration path based on our requirement.

    Thanks for your understanding.
