offline database RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

i'm using Access 2003 as database. Now the problem i point to a DB on computer A, for eg, \\userA_PC\shareDB.mdb  . If the user goes offline (the pc is off), i will get some error in my code. I'm not concern with the code but i'm seeking is there any better way to go with Access that can work both offline and online?  Even sharing out the shareDB.mdb also pose some security threat. Anyone has a better solution?

Using sql server is better, but the client insist want to use Access. Please help and advice.

  • There is no magic. If you need to share database, you need to put it on some shared drive. Otherwise you will need to work with the local copy on each PC and then provide replication mechanism that could be a nightmare and probably not worth. But what I would recommend is instead of using some user's PC, place database on some sort of file server computer that is available to any user within network.
