Required Permissions RRS feed

  • Question

  • We're trying to lock down our environments and I needed to get some basic info...

Exactly what permissions are required for a user for them to be able to run a schema compare against a database(s)?

In one database - in whic I am dbo - I can see every object. In my target database - in which I'm just datareader - I can only see the tables. VS doesn't pick up any stored procedures, views, or functions. I know they're there otherwise the app wouldn't work.

Does someone need to be dbo or sa to run these comparisons?

    Thanks!

  • NO. it depends on the connected user roles. when you start the compare, you need to ceate connection. the compare is depends on the connected user roles.

  • I know you have to create the connection....I connect just fine.

What I'm asking is what role does the user need to be a member of in order to do the compare...I'm assuming it needs to at least be db_ddladmin...

    Ansonee -

Have you looked at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa833413(VS.90).aspx ?  That should get you in the right ballpark, I think.

Let me know if you still have questions.

    thanks,
