When you type the domain name, make sure that you type the Domain Name System name and not the Network Basic Input Output System  name. For example, if the DNS name of the target domain is contoso.com, make sure that you enter contoso.com instead of the NetBIOS domain name of contoso.

Additionally, verify that the computer can reach a DNS server that hosts the DNS zone of the target domain or can resolve DNS names in that domain. Make sure that the correct DNS server is configured on this client as the preferred DNS, and that the client has connectivity to that server.

    Resolution
Follow these procedures to fix this problem:

Make sure that your environment complies with all the stages and requirements listed in Knowledge Base article 2002413's "Resolution" section.

Check ADSIEdit.msc to confirm the user's actual permissions for the domain partition if domain controller promotion still fails despite ensuring that the user also has the SeEnableDelegationPrivilege permission:

After selecting Run from the Start menu, type adsiedit.msc.

Right-click DC=domain,DC=com after expanding Default naming context, and then select Properties.

Click the Advanced button under the Security tab.

Enter the user or group name of the user who is executing the operation that is failing in DCPromo on the Effective Access tab.

Verify whether domain control access allows you to add or remove replicas.

  • Hello Leon,

I hope this problem is solved.

    Step 1

Before you adding to your domain make sure your ipconfig setting and DNS server ip address is picked or not.

    Step 2

Try to ping x.x.x your DNS server ip address and ping with your DNS name both should be successfully responds.

    Step 3

    Check FSMO

Open CMD Type netdom query fsmo and enter

    Step 4

Check ADDS server update KB updates and CU updates

    Thanks!
