Segoe UI Symbol Windows 7/8 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We're developing a Windows desktop application (WPF) for both Windows 7 and Windows 8. The application should look the same on both operating systems. To give the application a modern look-and-feel and to improve recognizability, we want to use the icons in the Windows 8 Segoe UI Symbol font.

This obviously gives us a problem for Windows 7, because those icons are not yet in version 5.00 of Segoe UI Symbol that is shipped with Windows 7. Two possible solutions to this problem are:
    1. Embed the 5.90 version of Segoe UI Symbol font in the application.
    2. Use Blend to convert the used icons to Paths.

Is either of these solutions legal? If not, what would be a good alternative?

    Thanks,
    Joost
