Using Entity Framework with .NET Compact Framework 2.0 and SQL Compact 3.5

Question

I have VS 2008 SP1 and SQL Compact Compact 3.5 SP 1 installed.

I can see "ADO.NET Entity Data Model" when I go to Add -> New Item in Web Application project but same is not shown in Smart Device 2.0 application.

How to use Entity Framework (which version) with .NET CF 2.0 application and SQL Compact 3.5 SP 1?

I'm sorry, entity framework is not available in compact framework. It's has been confirmed from the product team, the feature maybe added in a future release.

Entity Framework supports Sql Compact thus the sql server compact database can be used as a data source in an Entity Framework application (eg. A web application that runs on .NET Framework): http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc835495.aspx

 

However, .NET Compact Framework (NetCF) does not support Entity Framework as well as Linq to Sql (dbmls). Hence, I don’t think you can use SQL Compact in your smart device 2.0 applications.
