How to attach debugger to WCF Service when hosted by another C# Console program? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a home grown console mode C# program that hosts my C# WCF service.

I can use Visual Studio to attached to the host process and Visual Studio loads the source code so I can set break points.

The problem is that I don't want to debug the host program. I want to debug the DLL loaded by the host that implements my WCF service. How do I do that? Can I get Visual Studio to enumerate the DLLs?

    Thanks

    Siegfried

  • You would have to have classlib for DLL.

  • Thank you DA924x.

Can you please supply some more details?

I mentioned above that I have a DLL that implements the WCF service. I think this qualifies as a class lib because when looking at the Visual Studio 2019 "Create A New Project" dialog under "WCF Service Library"  it says "A project for creating a host-independent WCF service class library (.dll)".

Is this the option you suggest I use? If so, I have already done so originally in the first post and I need help setting a break point in the DLL.

If not, please point me to some directions for creating this class lib you suggest.

    Thanks

    Siegfried
