Install onto a VM from the BUILD USB key?

    Question

  • I've been unable to download the Win8 ISOs due to networking issues, so does anyone know a way to install it into VMware or VirtualBox from the USB Key?  I looked around for tools to covert the stuff there to an ISO but no luck so far.

  • You'll still need to download the ISO file.

  • Why install it into VMware or some thing else when you can go directly at a VHD located on your PC.

  • Thanks Fredrik, the VHD option looks great, but unless I'm misunderstanding, it requires me to fully boot into Win8.  I was hoping to keep Win7 up so I can still use all the tools I have here.  I will grab the ISO when I get back home.

Isn't the BUILD USB key an instance of Windows on the Go and not the actual
    installation files?

  • Hello,

Steven Sinofsky has a new entry in the Building Windows 8 blog that has some good information:

Running Windows 8 Developer Preview in a virtual environment

    Thanks
