list of well known folders in all languages RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

there are some system folders which are not present in the WellKnowFolders enumeration.

We are maintaining an internal list with the translations but we are missing some languages.

Is there a list available somewhere in all languages ? (in particular SuggestedContacts, PersonMetadata, RecipientCache) in all languages.

  • No AFAIK there is no such list and really you shouldn't be relying on static list for system folderss generally they will always have a corresponding EntryId Stored in property in a Mailbox so any client application can get that folder without having to use some sort of static list that would be problematic and not a good idea. eg

SuggestedContacts EntryId can be obtained from PR_ADDITIONAL_REN_ENTRYIDS_EX

Both the PersonMetadata, RecipientCache are wellknown folders, the recipientCache has been included in the latest version of the EWS Managed API on GitHub while PersonMetadata is available in the WSDL proxy code so you can modify the EWS Managed API source from GitHub to make that available.

  • This was just an example, there are several other folders where we need a translation in every language.

This issue is when we're migrating between mailboxes in diffferent languages, if we don't recognize these folders, we may try to recreate them.

    Other examples:

    Working Set

    RSS Feeds

    News Feed

    Quick Step Settings

    Skype for Business Contacts

  • What I said before still holds true for every folder you just listed if they are a current System folder then there is either a WellKnowFolderEnum or propertyId that can be used eg

Skype for Business Contacts = QuickContacts

These folders also all have specific FolderClass's (and location) and some are hidden like Quick Steps which should also be a good indicator for you.

New System Folders are added from time to time so your static approach will fail at some point in the future it just a question of when.
