Is it possible to mimic the windows 8.1 start screen "drag&drop" behavior. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everybody,

we are developing an Windows 8.1 Application, which uses horizontal and vertial scrollviewers and still need to be able to maintain an drag and drop experience, which seems native to the user.

Scroll and Drag and Drop in same Orientation.

In Windows 8, Drag and Drop was initiated by the system with Hold and Drag. Since Windows 8.1 it seems that this behavior changed to Drag and Drop (only possible against the scrollview orientation).

Is it somehow possible to mimic the behavior of the startscreen (drag and drop)?

If yes, is there an example, which suites exactly this behavior?

If no, is there anyway to start drag and drop programmically in Windows 8.1 (like DoDragDrop)?

    Best Regards

  • There is no built in control which duplicates the start screen's drag and drop behaviour. The standard drag and drop for apps is different. You may be able to implement it on your own, but I'm not aware of any existing samples.

There is no way to programmatically start Xaml's drag and drop behaviour. You can, of course, implement your own.
