How to chain two msi files RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I am working with Visual Studio 2008 to create two Outlook 2003 Add-Ins that target .NET 3.5.  I have created the two msi files and they work fine.  I would like to create another installer that calls these two msi files, basically one installer for both.  I have done some research online and have come accross the term 'msi chaining' but i cannot find a tutorial on how to do this.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • Jorge,

there are no tutorials because chaining MSIs and nested MSIs are no longer supported.  the reason is due to servicing problems. if a VSTO solution requires the VSTO runtime, .NET Framework, and Office PIAs, imagine updating the installer if a single prerequisite changed or had a hotfix available.
