Reserved error (-7711); there is no message for this error. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Having an interesting problem, I have a access database with linked to tables to a sql server 2008 R2 database with ODBC

When the database is connected to my regular database I have no issues, but now I had to restore a backup, and linked the tables to the restored database, but when I try to add a record to a specific table, when I hit the Update statement, I get the error "Reserved error (-7711); there is no message for this error."

  • Does the table in question have a primary key? If not, Access can't make updates. Try dropping the table and then manually link it. If you are prompted to select Field(s) to use as a unique index that would indicate that there is no primary key.

Also check the permissions on that table using SSMS. Maybe something changed so that you now have read-only permissions on the table or maybe a specific column.

Also, did you re-index all the tables after restoring the database? Could just be a corrupt index.
