Using Bing Maps SearchManager with Japanese addresses RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am trying to figure out how to Geocode Japanese addresses using the Ajax Control SearchManager. I know that Bing now offers Japanese address support but has this filter through to the Ajax control?

I have tried multiple address formats but still do not get any results. Especially when it comes to actual buildings. Sometimes a city address may be geolocated.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  •  Detailed Japanese data is only available in Japanese. As such you have to set the MKT parameter of the map control to ja-JP in order for the SearchManager to be able to properly geocode Japanese addresses. To do this set the script reference to Bing Maps to the following:

    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ecn.dev.virtualearth.net/mapcontrol/mapcontrol.ashx?v=7.0&mkt=ja-JP"></script>

Note that this will also change the map to Japanese. If you prefer to keep the map in English and still be able to geocode Japanese addresses you can use the Bing Maps REST location service to do the geocoding. Alternatively you can also specify two languages to display on the map. For example, here you can set Japanese as the primary language and English as a secondary language:

    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ecn.dev.virtualearth.net/mapcontrol/mapcontrol.ashx?v=7.0&mkt=ja=JP,en-US"></script>
