HOW do we upgrade the Native Client ONLY?? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a database app running on a server with SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1 installed.
Native client is 2009.100.2500.00 on this server.

Trying to run the client of the above application upon our Xenapp 6.0 server(s) is having issues.

The client installer installed a SQL Server 2008 Native Client.

We found and installed the SQL Server 2008 R2 Native Client, bringing the Native Client version to 2009.100.1600.01.

HOW do I change or upgrade the SQL Server Native Client 10.0 on the XenApp server to have it match the 2009.100.2500.00 version number??

Tried running SP1 which did nothing.

    Thank you, Tom

  • Hi Tom,

As pointed above, you can download and install the SQL Server 2008 R2 Native Client separately on your client computer. If you have installed the SQL Server 2008 Native Client, it will prompt you whether to upgrade the existing installation as following information:

Click 'Yes' to upgrade the native client.

  • You could try slipstreaming your installation media and then using the following link (namely running sqlncli.msi)

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms131321.aspx

    To slipstream :-

  • Thank you, apparently I have not explained well enough.

The XenApp server ONLY has the Native Client installed, *nothing* else.

No SQL, no nothing except the SQL Native Client.

I want to know how to upgrade a Native-Client-only installation as to the above-mentioned version numbers.

    Thank you, Tom
